How Daniel Wellington makes money through influencer marketing and Collaborations - Ft. Case Study

So to begin with,
I would love to introduce you all to the "Daniel Wellington" a classic collaboration which every influencer wishes for!
You need to first understand what is influencer marketing before learning about DW collaboration.
Read about influencer marketing here if you haven't read before!

Have you ever wondered how influencers get a ten thousand rupees 'wrist watch' absolutely for free?

Daniel Wellington - the brand
DW is a Swedish company which was founded in 2011 by Filip Tysander.
On average, the brands make money of $200million dollars every year.
From the past four years, the sales have gone from $1 million dollars to $200million.
So can you guess what strategies they might have implemented to grow their business?
Undoubtedly they have implemented a strategy called "Influencer Marketing".
As part of the collaboration, a few selected influencers from a niche will be given a watch along with a coupon code.
In return, the influencer has to promote the watch and brand.
The coupon code given by the brand will have a 15% discount on every new purchase.
The influencer will promote the watch and code at their particular niche.
Someone from the influencers target group purchases the watch using the code will get an offer of 15%.
For example, if the watch is for Rs.10,000/- using the code, it comes down to Rs.7500/-
The percentage of that watch's sale will be given to the influencer.
How does this benefit Daniel Wellington ?
Firstly, DW wants a social presence which will automatically happen through influencers when they promote the watch on various social media platforms as in face book, instagram and so on.
Second, when the influencer of a particular niche, will promote the watch, people who are in the surroundings and have no idea about DW will get to know about the brand.
third, When the targeted group purchases the watch, the brand gets 70% of the amount
For example, if an influencer has got 5000 followers, at least 10 of his followers will use the coupon code and purchase the watch.
One watch equals to Rs.10,000/-
Ten watches equal to Rs.1,00,000/-
After cutting down the percentage of an influencer, Daniel Wellington will recieve
Rs.70,00/-.
So, for Rs.10,00/- DW will gain Rs.60,000/- .
Every year Daniel Wellington will manufacture 20,00 watches just for the influencers.
They send a sample watch to the influencer and expect a promotion for them which indeed gives them huge returns.
That is how DW makes money.
How can you collaborate with DW?
There are two ways to collaborate with DW
One, The PR's from DW will look at your social media profiles and will send you a request for collaboration.
Two, You can directly mail to the official influencer program of DW and request them to collaborate with you.
Once, your profile gets verified, you will be sent a sample watch.
