Tie and dye art and the techniques used in it has become very popular these days. Pochampally ikat cloth is made using one of these techniques with unique and innovative patterns.

Pochampally cloth was originated from a place named Bhoodan Pochampally. It is a small town named Nalgonda which is located in Andhra Pradesh. The town is known to be as "Silk city of India". The inception of weaving a saree has been started in 18th century in this village.

                                                              Look-1

During those times, Pochampally sarees were worn only by wealthy women. But today, we find them in every nook and corner of the world.
Initially, it was started with a small number of weavers, later it has become a large manufacturing unit all over the country.

                                                                Look-2

The best part of Pochampally cloth is the design which has got geometric patterns on the cloth which gives it a lavish and unique look.  The beauty of the cloth lies in the glossiness of the cloth.

Weaving a single saree takes 10 days and the entire family put their sweat and blood to weave a saree.
Today, because of technology Pochampally cloth is not only confined to sarees but also to dupattas, home décor items, bed sheets and also to the designer clothes.

The Pochampally cloth in 2005 has received geographical indication status which means the cloth has been marketed in general public through corporate societies.
Pochampally cloth today, has proclaimed a lot of recognition and also has become a symbol of status. The beautiful dress which I have worn has bought from creative hub stores. Here, I provide the link to various stores where you can purchase the Pochampally ikat cloths.
